Celebrating Christmas in Yorkshire

Written by: Elmtree Press

It’s finally December and it’s definitely cold outside, but now is not the time to be sadden by rainy clouds, as throughout Yorkshire so many attractions are hosting fabulous Christmas events. So wrap up warm, put your thick socks on and go out and explore a bit of Yorkshire this weekend! Here is a quick round up of a few of our favourite things to do this weekend:-

Grassington Dickensian Festival

Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th December

The legendary festival is back!! The picturesque village of Grassington is transported back to the time of Dickens with shopkeepers, villagers and visitors dressed in Victorian costume. The cobbled streets of Grassington make the past come to life with a full entertainment programme over the whole weekend including bands, buskers, street entertainers and so much more.

Carols by Candlelight at Fountains Abbey

Sunday 9th December

For a truly magical experience, check out the annual and always delightful Carols by Candlelight family service. Pick up a candle on your way in and see the flickering glow of nearly 1’000 candles light up the abbey. Mulled wine and hot chocolate will be available whilst singing along to all your favourite traditional carols.

Santa Express at Pickering Station

8th & 9th, 15th & 16th and 22nd & 23rd December

Jump on the Santa Express at Pickering Station this weekend and join Santa and his helpers on a magical adventure! Enjoy a ride on the Santa Express on a delightful 75 minute journey through North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Children can meet the man himself on board the train and experience the magic of Christmas through stories and activities during the train ride.

Christmas Tours at Kiplin Hall

Friday 7th, Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th December

Kiplin Hall comes alive this Christmas with Christmas trees, festive decorations and advert angels filling every room. For the children, there are crafts and themed activities as well as a Christmas trial that leads you through the hall. There is also a festive craft and gift fair selling a range of Christmas items as well as homemade produce from the Kiplin kitchens and seasonal vegetables from the Kiplin gardens.
