Our National Parks have a certain quality about them that makes them majestic day or night and this Winter the Dark Skies Festival will take a unique look at the night sky from places of significant beauty that can also boast of being some of the darkest places in England, making them perfect for star-gazing.
Between 15th February to 3rd March 2019, events will be happening all over the North including the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. The Dark Skies Festival is all about discovering, learning and exploring the dark and all the multitudes of stars that you can see as a result. With plenty of activities for families, first-time sky-gazers or people wanted to expand their knowledge – the Dark Skies Festival hopes that you will get out and enjoy the wonders of the night sky above.
Dark Sky Discovery Locations have been set up all specifically for the darkest they provide making them perfect places to try and glimpse the Milky Way with the naked eye. In the North Yorkshire Moors, Danby, Sutton Bank and Dalby Forest are the prime location whilst on the other side in the Yorkshire Dales, you need to head to Hawes, Malham and Buckden and that will give you the best opportunity to see this natural wonder.
Here at Go Yorkshire, we think this is a perfect opportunity to see either (or both!) the Dales or Moors in a new light, or lack thereof! Therefore, here is just a small selection of events that might take your fancy:North Yorkshire Moors events
