Fantastic grub to fill yer belly in Yorkshire this Christmas

Written by: Elmtree Press

We love our food in Yorkshire, especially at Christmas time.  If you haven't tried any of these places for a meal,  why on earth not?

Sukhothai,  Leeds and Harrogate

Few chefs in the country know Thai food like Head Chef & Owner Ban Kaewkraikhot.  She ran a successful restaurant in Bangkok for 8 years, before relocating to the UK to head up a well-known Yorkshire restaurant for a further 4 years.  She opened the original restaurant in the heart of Chapel Allerton in 2002 and puts Sukhothai's success down to super-attentive service, an imaginative yet authentic menu and flying the most amazing, fresh Thai ingredients in to the kitchens every week.  Sukhothai is very proud of its rave reviews and regular awards and has consistently won ever since they opened.   Sukothai are regularly listed in the prestigious Good Food Guide and Harden's, plus have been recognised  in The Times and Sunday Times and locally by the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Oliver Awards.

Christmas is on the way, and, with it comes brand new Christmas menus.  Each menu is a special selection of Sukhothai classics,  customer favourites and some new dishes you’ll never have seen before.  Menus start as low as £27.  So, see the website for the restaurant you’d like (Leeds City Centre , Harrogate,  Headingley & Chapel Allerton). www.sukhothai.co.uk/reservations

Al Forno, Seburgh

Al Forno Italian Kitchen is a family run business in the picturesque town of Sedbergh, situated in Yorkshire Dales National Park. Ivan and Kate moved to Sedbergh around 4 years ago.  In 2017 they were given the unique opportunity to run an Italian Restaurant situated in the Main street of the town.  Ivan, a baker and chef by trade, was born in a quaint Italian town deep in the Apennine mountains. Growing up in a traditional Italian family home, Ivan learned to cook authentic, hearty meals from ‘La Cucina della mama’ (his mamas kitchen) which he serves in the restaurant today. Kate, originally from the North East of England, met Ivan in Italy whilst on one of her many adventures travelling.  Her experience front of house comes from work in many European countries, learning and perfecting her customer service skills, even going on to study it at management level.  Together they run a beautiful, clean, friendly and homely restaurant with beautiful food and amazing customer service.

Bizzie Lizzie Fish and Chips,  Skipton

Great Food, Great Value, Great Dining Experience.  At Bizzie Lizzie’s the aim is simple – to provide fresh high quality food at affordable prices.  Starting in 1986 serving really good takeaway fish & chips, in 1989 they extended and modernised the premises to provide a first class traditional fish and chip restaurant and takeaway.  All that was needed was a new name to reflect the success of the growing business.  The answer came from a customer who suggested they use the founder Jean Ritson’s middle name of “Lizzie” and combine it with what they wanted the restaurant to be – “busy”.   And so with a little poetic licence the Bizzie Lizzie’s we know and love today was born.

By combining the finest ingredients with hard work and passion for making people happy, it gained an enviable reputation and in 1999 won the National Fish & Chip Awards, with visitors travelling from far and wide to taste our award winning Fish & Chips.  As fame grew, more space was needed and in 2002 they opened a second restaurant at High Street Car Park.  With its fresh, modern interior and unusual décor it soon became a favourite with shoppers and visitors alike. Tasty breakfasts and luscious afternoon teas were added to the menu making it the perfect central venue to meet and treat friends and family right through the day.  Since then they've added gluten-free,  dairy-free,  vegan,  vegetarian,  pescatarian, and calorie counted options to menus, so that everyone can enjoy the Bizzie Lizzie’s experience.

Bizzie Lizzie’s is a family owned and run business, with three generations now working hard to make sure they remain Skipton’s favourite Fish & Chip restaurants. Constantly tweaking recipes, adding to the menu and improving service to provide an unbeatable dining experience time after time.

Scotts Fish and Chip Restaurant in Chengdu, China has had its official opening recently.  For a clientele of international tourists, a pitstop at Scotts has become almost as synonymous with a visit to nearby York as marvelling at the historic city’s Medieval architecture.  Scotts Fish And Chips has proved to be a big hit with Chinese tourists visiting the UK over the last 18 months.  That success led to a Chinese businessman, Jimmy Yu, approaching the shop’s owner, Tony Webster, about opening a branch in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan.   Flavours cater to the local taste – so they have Sichuan sauce, for example, as well as ketchup – but the core product has to be the authentic fish and chips.
