Father’s Day in Yorkshire
Have you remembered its Father’s Day this Sunday June 18th and are you looking for some inspiring ideas to treat him to? Well here at Go Yorkshire we have all come up with some of our favourite ideas on how to spoil Dad this weekend.
For the traditionalist why not treat Dad to Sunday Lunch at the Galphay Inn, situated 4 miles from Fountains Abbey. Locally home cooked food at reasonable prices is a great way to start the day followed by a walk at Fountains Abbey which is an easy walk and accessible for all ages. You can even hire a motorised scooter for those unable to walk too far. An alternative and delightful walk is through the Valley of the Severn Bridges situated at the other end of the estate at Studley Royal Water Garden. Starting at the Lake outfall, this walk follows the meandering River Skell along the steep-sided valley via a series of delightful arched bridges, of which only five remain intact. It is a good walk to do with even young children encouraging them to walk further by counting the bridges en route. Treat yourself to lunch or tea with the voucher in our Go Yorkshire Mini-Guide of 20% off when you spend over £20.00 on food.
Harlow Carr are organising an orienteering adventure for Dad’s and families to enjoy which is both fun and a great way to explore the gardens. Afterwards, afternoon tea at Betty’s is a great way to round off the day. Look in our Go Yorkshire mini guide for £2.00 of each full paying adult.
Black Sheep Brewery have a voucher in our Go Yorkshire mini-guide Take a trip to the Brewery and treat your Dad to Sunday lunch on Father's Day and he'll get a bottle of our Monty Python's Holy Grail and a limited edition goblet glass on us! Before you go do pick up our Go Yorkshire Mini-Guide as they have an offer of 2 tickets for the price of 1 for the Brewery Tour and make sure when you reserve your table you book the tour as well to avoid disappointment.
Another great discount voucher in the Go Yorkshire Mini-Guide is for Lightwater Valley, with up to 40% @ £18 pp. it is a great day out for all the family and a great discount too. If you don’t fancy a day at the theme park, adjacent to them is a new attraction called Tree Top Nets, a combination of high wire nets, trampolines and a ball pool amongst the trees. Two hours of fun will certainly exhaust the whole family and Dad will enjoy a welcome snooze when you get back home before firing up the barbecque! Please note that entry to this attraction is not included in Lightwater Valley’s admission or discount voucher.
Train rides are another suggestion for the family to enjoy together this Sunday and Yorkshire has far more preserved railway lines than any other county in Britain. Three of the best have discount vouchers in our Mini-Guide as well. The narrow gauge Kirklees Light Railway which passes through the beautiful South Pennine foothills, offers a free child’s ticket when accompanied by a full paying adult, the North York Moors Railway has £4.00 off a return ticket from Pickering over the Moors to Whitby and the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway offers a 2 for 1 ticket for adults or children and is an enjoyable way to travel through the Yorkshire Dales after visiting nearby Skipton Castle. This magnificent medieval castle is a fascinating and interesting place to visit, with interesting and informative guides who will explain and lead you around the castle in an informative 30 minute tour.
The weather forecast for this weekend looks promising and Scarborough has plenty to offer with beautiful sandy beaches and plenty of attractions to entertain. The North Bay Railway is a delightful narrow gauge railway that takes you from Peaseholme Park to Scarborough Seallife Centre situated overlooking the North Bay, (see their voucher in our Mini-Guide). Scarborough Castle is a famous landmark standing proud on the headland and the views are amazing and offer up to 40% discount for 4 people with the voucher in the Mini-Guide so well worth using if you fancy visiting.
Wishing you all you Dads a great weekend!
Best wishes from the Go Yorkshire Team
