It’s begun, the first half term for the year and we are in luck. The sun has been shining, the skies are starting to look blue and the desire to get out the house can only be matched by the host of half-term activities that attractions and museums all over Yorkshire are providing for families and children this February.
If you’re in York this half-term then visit the National Railway Museum for a truly inventive learning experience where the focus is on future-proofing lifestyles with emphasis on energy and sustainability. Families and children can work together to find new and interesting ways to power train, reduce waste and protect their planet. There will be new challenges, classic shows and live demonstrations throughout the February half-term.
For those looking for some family fun then head down to Lightwater Valley who are holding a fabulous family fun event from 21st-26th February. Tickers are just £7.95 but must be pre-booked online. Visitors will have access to selected rides including the Eagle’s Claw, Trauma Tower and the traditional fairground rides plus indoor and outdoor play and the brand-new UV Magic Lights Puppet Show. Riggmoor Farm will also be visiting with some adorable farmyard animals to meet and greet too.
There is also plenty to learn at Ripon Workhouse Museum this half-term, with family fun activities taking place between 11am and 3pm from the 25th February to the 1st March. Have a go at making your own soap then try out their carbolic soap in the Laundry, make some Victorian boot polish or explore the Kitchen and bake some Laundry day biscuits to the Victorian recipe.
For some aquatic adventures then explore the life of the Yorkshire Coast at The Deep, their Plastic Travels half-term event takes families on a journey from shelf to shore and explores the voyage of everlasting plastics and the impact this has on our oceans. Joined by the local wildlife charity RSPB, learn about how to protect the animals of our Yorkshire Coasts with interactive trials and crafting activities throughout the holidays.
