Wensleydale Railway’s popular afternoon tea train services are back this year, with new menus and extra dates. Catering Manager Mo Park and her volunteer catering team, along with the railway’s catering partner The Green Apple Tree Indian Restaurant in Northallerton, will once again bring a range of delicious food to the railway. Starting with a Valentine’s Day lunch on Sunday 16 February, Mo and her team will serve up a total of 11 different food trains this year.

The afternoon tea train services begin with a Valentine’s Day lunchtime train on Sunday 16 February. This will feature a delicious ‘mezze’ sharing platter. The railway will also have tea trains for Mother’s Day (30 March), Easter Sunday (20 April), an Indian tea train on 4 May, Spring (18 May), Father’s Day (15 June), Yorkshire Day (27 July), Summer (17 August), 21 September, Curry Night (6 October) and Autumn (19 October).

Your afternoon tea experience begins with a refreshing glass of fizz or orange juice once you take your seat. As the train departs for Leyburn, the railway’s volunteer staff will serve a choice of tea or coffee and a selection of freshly cut sandwiches and savoury pastries. All you need to do is sit back and enjoy the food, drink and spectacular views of Wensleydale scenery from the comfort of your seat!

There will be a short rest break in Leyburn and then its back on board the train and time to enjoy a selection of delicious scones and cakes served with more tea or coffee as you return to Leeming Bar. Your afternoon finishes with a luxury chocolate as you say goodbye - until the next time!

The afternoon tea trains depart Leeming Bar at 2.30pm and the journey lasts around two hours.

Please do ensure that any food allergies are specified at the time of booking. Unfortunately, the railway’s vintage coaches do not currently have access for wheelchair users. If you have mobility constraints, please let staff know at the time of booking and they will do their best to allocate a table close to the access door.

The cost is £49 per adult and £25 for children (aged 14 and under) and includes the rail ticket and a complimentary glass of fizz (or soft drink). Booking is essential to avoid disappointment.

Nick Keegan, Marketing and Fundraising Manager at Wensleydale Railway said: “Our on-train food events were very popular with our customers last year. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Mo and her catering team, who are all volunteers, we are able to expand the number of afternoon tea trains on offer this year. Our afternoon tea services are perfect for a special occasion, family celebrations, as a gift to a loved one or just a treat for you!”

He added: “we are delighted to continue our catering partnership with The Green Apple Tree Indian Restaurant of Northallerton. Sagar, Paul and their team always deliver amazing food and service. If you are in or near Northallerton, a visit to their restaurant is a must for authentic Indian food and great hospitality.”
