I am a Printmaker based in the West Riding of Yorkshire, my work is inspired by the landscape and wildlife of the natural environment. However, whilst these are recurring themes in my work I don’t consider myself to be either a landscape or a wildlife artist. Being happy to tackle any subject I feel will make an interesting or challenging print.
Printmaking forms the mainstay of my work and I would describe its appeal as being like a puzzle. For all the planning and working out that is done beforehand, there is no certainty about the outcome of the finished image. Until with the strange alchemy of art it gradually appears through the mists of the previous colours.
Influenced by Japanese Woodblock artists particularly Hiroshi Yoshida, by painters such as W.Heaton Cooper and Kenneth Steel and printmakers such as Charles Tunnicliffe, Robin Tanner and the Mezzotint printmaker Martin Mitchell I make Linocut, drypoint and Mezzotint prints.
