Ampleforth Abbey

Ampleforth Abbey has been home to a Community of Benedictine monks since 1802. The Abbey Church is the centre of monastic life and is open to visitors all year round. Guided tours are available every Thursday at 2:15 pm or by appointment. Explore the beautiful lakes, trails and woodlands or take advantage of the extensive sports facilities including golf, swimming and an activity and training centre.For rest and relaxation enjoy a refreshing cup of tea in the Tea Room, where home-made sandwiches, light meals and afternoon tea are served. Try a slice of delicious apple cake made with apples from our orchard.

    In the Abbey Shop you will find not just books and cards, but a wide selection of gifts and monastic produce including the famous Ampleforth Cider, award winning Ampleforth Amber, Cider Brandy and Damson Gin, made using fruit from the orchards. The Visitor Centre tells the story of Ampleforth and details the day to day life of the monastic Community with display panels, an interactive quiz, audio pieces and a film, together with a mouse hunt for younger children. The Abbey Church, Visitor Centre, Tea Room and Abbey Shop are open every day. Please check our website or telephone for opening times.
