Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal

Soak up the atmosphere amidst the magnificent abbey ruins, the largest and most complete in the country, and be charmed by the graceful Georgian water garden where cascades flow into mirror-like pools.

Enjoy the eye-catching views in the water-garden as its' designer, John Aislabie, originally intended them to be seen. Follow paths through tree-lined avenues in the deer park, find a hidden herb garden beneath the Elizabethan-style facade of Fountains Hall, and take inspiration from the richly decorated interior of St Mary's Church.

Becoming a UNESCO world heritage site in 1986, it’s a truly special place to come and enjoy year round.  It’s a landscape of seasonal sensations; see the splendour of snowdrops in spring, wild orchids in summer, golden leaves in autumn, and twinkling frosts in winter.

Find out more about this unique place on the National Trust website - there's a programme of events all year round, interesting walks, guided tours, inspiring exhibitions and family activities in the school holidays.
