The Smiths’ Mike Joyce Heads to Yorkshire for Independent Venue Week

To mark the occasion, the Arts Centre has lined up two very special events. On 28 January, the venue will host an evening with The Smiths’ drummer, Mike Joyce. Active from 1982 to 1987, The Smiths remain one of the most influential bands in music history, with all five of their studio albums reaching the UK Top 5.

To celebrate the release of his memoir, Mike Joyce will share a candid, behind-the-scenes look at his time with the iconic band, answering the question, ‘What went right?’. This intimate evening will feature an interview hosted by The Guardian’s Dave Simpson, as well as a Q&A session and book signing.

Then, on 29 January, music lovers will be treated to a powerful performance by the incredibly talented Elanor Moss. With family roots in Lincolnshire and Baltimore, Elanor draws on folk influence from homes both familiar and felt.

Through her songs, she explores the nuances of life lived in relation to others, taking inspiration from both the British and American folk canon.
