Eden Camp celebrates the unsung heroines of World War II with Women at War programme and family summer savings

This summer, families are invited to uncover the extraordinary stories of the women who helped Britain during World War II with Eden Camp’s Women at War summer programme - running throughout the school holidays from 17th July to 31st August.

The immersive programme brings to life the courage, determination, and resilience of the women who stepped into important roles across Britain during wartime. From the fields and factories to hospitals and military bases, visitors will discover how women helped keep the nation running during its darkest hours through interactive activities, workshops, and live experiences.

Alongside the host of new workshops, events and activities, Eden Camp is also taking part in the Great British Summer Savings VAT reduction scheme, implementing the full VAT reduction to help make family days out more affordable this summer. Families can enjoy advance purchase tickets from just £14.75 for adults and concessions, £13 for children, with family tickets available from £26.25.

History enthusiasts and curious minds can take part in a range of themed activities designed to educate, entertain, and inspire.

Women at War: Poo Clues Trail - daily

Families can follow a fun and educational trail inspired by the work of the Women’s Land Army and identify animal droppings hidden around the museum, collect letters, and uncover a secret wartime word before claiming a sweet treat from the shop.

Little Evacuees Workshop - Monday to Friday, 12pm to 1pm & 2pm to 3pm

This free bookable workshop offers children the chance to experience life on the Home Front with hands-on activities including; creating a cardboard gas mask, learning about evacuation and rationing, and discovering the stories of wartime women.

Cow milking experience - on selected dates from 11am

Families can meet Connie from the Women’s Land Army and learn about the role women played in wartime farming, and try their hand at milking a model cow.

1940s Summer Street Games - daily

Traditional wartime games will be set up for families to challenge each other at sack races, three-legged races, hopscotch, skipping, marbles, and other activities that entertained children during the 1940s.

Living History Weekend - 29th-30th August

The popular Living History Weekend returns in August, welcoming reenactors as they bring wartime Britain to life across the museum. History fans can meet medics, explore a Sherman Tank, sample authentic wartime ration recipes, and enjoy live music. Visitors are encouraged to come in 1940s attire to become part of this immersive experience which is included in the Summer Saver Scheme

Nick Hill, Museum Manager at Eden Camp, said: “We’re so pleased to be implementing the Government’s VAT reduction scheme in full and passing those savings directly on to visitors, helping more families enjoy a day out. Our Women at War programme is full of hands-on and interactive activities that bring history to life for all ages and we can’t wait to welcome families and history enthusiasts alike to experience it.

After exploring the immersive WWII exhibits and taking part in all the summer fun, children can enjoy a tasty Children’s Meal for just £6 during the summer holidays, making it even easier for families to enjoy an affordable day out.
