Wensleydale Railway is celebrating this year’s Heritage Open Days festival with a free architecture exhibition. On Saturday 20th September, Leeming Bar Station and the Leeming Bar Community Hub will be hosting an exhibition called 'Building our Railway: The Architecture of Leeming Bar and Beyond'. It will look at the unique architecture of the Wensleydale Railway, and the area around its headquarters in Leeming Bar village, through a mix of historical information, staff talks and tours, photographs, models, and more.

Heritage Open Days is England's largest community led festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations. Every year in September it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history. Stories are told, traditions explored, and histories brought to life. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.

Connor Lagus, Community Engagement Officer at the Wensleydale Railway said:

“We're really excited to once again welcome visitors to a one day only pop-up exhibition for Heritage Open Day. In 2023, we celebrated Heritage Open Day with a smaller exhibition that focused on the research we'd done for our National Lottery Funded renovation of Leeming Bar Station, and we enjoyed sharing this with the residents of Leeming Bar village, but also with visitors from further afield.

This year, we are delighted to be working with the Leeming Bar Community Hub, who have kindly allowed us to host part of this exhibition in the Community Hub space, which sits directly opposite Leeming Bar Station. Once again, we'll be dipping into our archives to bring out interesting documents, photos and objects linking to this year's national theme, architecture. We hope you can join us on Saturday 20th September!”

The ‘Building our Railway: The Architecture of Leeming Bar and Beyond’ exhibition will be held at Leeming Bar Station on Saturday 20 September between 10am and 3pm. The exhibition will be free to access, but usual costs apply to visitors travelling on the trains.
