We're delighted to be welcoming, No. 4079 Pendennis Castle to the NYMR, courtesy of the Didcot Railway Centre.
Over two weekends, 3 & 4, 10 & 11 October, this stunning locomotive will be hauling special return services, departing from Pickering Station, through the spectacular North York Moors National Park.
A genuine racing legend. Built at Swindon Works in February 1924, No. 4079 Pendennis Castle is one of the most celebrated steam locomotives ever built. In 1925 the Great Western lent her to its rival the LNER for trials against the brand new Flying Scotsman, and she outpaced the bigger engine while burning far less coal and water. She was soon billed as the most powerful express passenger locomotive in Britain.
