Filey Kite Festival: A weekend of sky-high spectacle and coastal flavours.

The skies above Filey are set to come alive once again at the scenic Filey Brigg Country Park this September. This FREE, family-friendly event promises a weekend of vibrant displays, community spirit, and coastal charm.

New for 2026

This year's festival will launch with a spectacular Friday Night Flight! Taking place between 6.30pm and 9pm - don’t miss this unique experience to see illuminated kites take to the skies just as the sun begins to set.

Now a firm favourite in the town’s events calendar, the festival draws kite enthusiasts and curious visitors alike to witness a dazzling array of kites soaring above the Yorkshire coast. From giant inflatable creatures to intricate, high-performance designs, the festival showcases the creativity and skill of some of the UK’s top kite flyers.

The event is hosted and commentated by the Northern Kite Group, who bring decades of experience and a passion for kite flying to the festival. Their commentary adds colour and context to the displays, helping visitors understand the techniques and stories behind the kites.

Adding even more flavour to the weekend will be a selection of traders from Filey Food Festival. This popular collaboration means visitors can enjoy not only the visual spectacle in the sky, but also a variety of food and drink on the ground.

The festival isn’t just about what’s happening in the sky. On the ground, there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained. Children can enjoy traditional fairground rides, learn to fly a kite and even make their own, whilst adults can browse a variety of stalls offering crafts, gifts and local produce.

The festival runs from 6.30pm - 9pm on Friday and 10am - 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. The festival is free to attend, and parking is available at Filey Country Park, though charges will apply. Visitors are encouraged to bring picnic blankets, dress for the weather, and prepare for a day of outdoor enjoyment. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome, making it a perfect outing for the whole family.

As with any outdoor event, the programme is subject to weather conditions. Kite flying and the Teddy Bear Drop, in particular, depend on having suitable wind and dry skies. Organisers will provide updates if any changes are necessary, so it’s worth checking online before setting off.
