Woodland adventures this October half-term

Step into the woods for an hour of storytelling, imagination and outdoor fun at Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve in North Yorkshire.

Taking place on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 October 2026, these Woodland Storytelling and Play Sessions invite families to explore the magic of stories in a beautiful natural setting.

Each session begins with a cosy woodland tale before children have the opportunity to bring the story to life through themed games and hands-on activities among the trees.

Designed especially for children aged 18 months to 7 years, although older children are also welcome, the sessions offer a lovely opportunity for little explorers to enjoy the outdoors, use their imaginations and discover the natural world through play.

Whether your little ones love listening to stories, exploring woodland surroundings or getting involved in creative activities, these sessions are a fun way to spend time together during the October half-term holiday.

Dates, times and booking information

Dates: Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 October 2026

Session times (both days):

• 11am–12pm
• 1.30pm–2.30pm

Location: Foxglove Covert Local Nature Reserve, Waithwith Road, Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, DL9 3PX

Suitable for: Children aged 18 months to 7 years, although older children are welcome.

Booking: Advance booking through Eventbrite.

Good to know before you visit

• Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the session.
• Meet at the Field Centre at least 10 minutes before the session begins.
• Allow approximately 15 minutes to walk from the car park to the Field Centre.
• Wear suitable clothing and footwear for the weather and woodland environment.
• Dogs are not permitted at these sessions.
• Bring your booking confirmation to show on arrival.
